Sometimes I get a little bored of the usual icing, dragees and so on for my homemade cupcakes, but I don’t like to faff around with intricate decorations. The simpler, the better. It’s always nice to have a bit of variety on the tea tray or cupcake stand though, especially for little kids. I have a 4-year-old cousin who is a real cupcake diva, so anything a little whimsical is great for her.
I make little fairy wings by slicing the tops off of cooled cupcakes, piping on some icing, cut the tops in half & place them back on the cakes at a slight angle. This works best with a bit of a firmer sort of icing and cake. Very light cupcakes, or those cut when they’re still too warm, will fall apart.
That’s it 🙂
