Foodie adventures with Zomato

by Lala

You may have noticed a new little widget on my site, entitled Foodie Adventures, which links to my Zomato profile. Go ahead and get this awesome app, available on iOS & Android, and add me as a foodie friend on Zomato. This is an awesome app that is about more than restaurant reviews and ratings. It is a really cool, interactive experience that brings together lovers of fine food & drinks. There are regular meet-ups at the hottest established and new restaurants in different areas, which add a great social element. Zomato is currently available in over 10 000 cities in 26 countries, including South Africa.

I’ve already used the app to review three restaurants around Pretoria, and I’ll certainly be adding more. Because of my studies and the recent trip to Japan, unfortunately I missed out on the first Zomato meet-up in the capital where the local bloggers met up at Simply Asia in Clubview. But I just can’t wait to get together with everyone at the next venue. Finally a group of people who share my love of Instragramming food…that is a shameless pleasure of mine.

How Zomato works briefly, is that you create a profile and share you experience at an eatery, be it good, or otherwise. You can check in to the venue and give a live review, or write one later on after enjoying your meal. It is a location based app, so our reviews help others to find local places serving up just the right type of food and atmosphere in no time at all. I love that you can take pictures and add them to the review, which really helps to give others a feel for the place when looking for somewhere to have that long lunch or cosy dinner.

The search function is brilliant! Not only can you look up, for example Italian dining in your area, you can check which restaurants are trending around you, see which places have an excellent breakfast, which restaurants can deliver lunch to your office and if there’s loadshedding, you can even check which venues you can rely on to have power that evening. You gotta love that.
